I like therapy because I got all my feelings out and everything I was worried about and spoke about all the problems at home and in school. I have learnt how to deal with my problems more…I was sad and now I am happy. It’s useful to talk and not to keep your feelings in.

There is a wealth of information to help support the training and development offered by our Family Plus team. Here is just a small selection of great places to visit for information, ideas and advice to help families caring for children who have experienced trauma in their young lives.

Beaconhouse – A great place for educational resources from an integrated occupational therapy service offering a range of assessments and therapies for children, families, and adults .

Safe Hands Thinking Minds – Providing the team around the family with high quality, specialist training and consultancy

AdoptionPlus – An Ofsted ‘Outstanding’ agency offering a range of excellent resources and information on training and therapy courses.

InnerWorld Work – A free, online parent and carer support and resource centre. Well worth a look to help inform schools and parents/carers.

Adoption – A child’s Guide. A really useful resource for carers with little ones on the way to adoption.

Special Guardians

There are 200,000 children in kinship care, where relatives and friends step in to raise children who aren’t able to live with their parents.

Grandparents Plus – This is the website of the national charity for kinship carers, with plenty of resources for everyone involved in kinship care.

Special Guardian – Run by Special Guardians for guardians and families with Residence Orders, offering heartfelt and friendly advice for carers and the children under their wings.
