Deciding to become foster carers is the best decision we ever made. It does have its challenges, but we know we have support.
Once approved, all foster carers have a dedicated support worker who will visit them and are there to offer help and advice.
You will also have a mentor, who is an experienced foster carer who will also support and guide you through your first year.
We have an out of hours service which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This means that there is always a member of the Fostering Team for you to talk to, and that we can get help to you at any time should it be needed.
We run a continuous training programme throughout the year. Some of the training is mandatory and some of it is not. The training ranges from core skills that are needed to be a foster carer to more specialist training which carers may benefit from in order to meet the needs of a specific child in their care.
There are regular support groups run by – and for – foster carers.
